MALIBU, Calif. (KNX) — A mountain lion has died after being fatally struck by a vehicle on the Pacific Coast Highway in Malibu Wednesday morning.
The incident occurred at around 7:35 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. Deputies with the Malibu Station were called to an area of the 33200 block of the PCH, near Decker Road, shortly thereafter on reports of a mountain lion sighting.

Upon arriving on the scene, deputies confirmed that a driver had run over the cat, and that it had subsequently died.
The driver was not at the scene when deputies arrived.
Animal control personnel handled removal of the animal’s body, according to the sheriff’s department. The highway remained open.
The cat was known as P-104, according to a spokesperson for the Santa Monica Mountains National Recreation Area. The agency confirmed that the male was the first documented mountain lion to be killed by a car on the PCH.
