It's described as the most important decision a Los Angeles mayor can make: selecting a new chief for the Los Angeles Police Department. As KNX News' Craig Fiegener reports, a new shortlist with just a few names on it has been given to Mayor Karen Bass.
The secret interview process yielded a list of three finalists ranked in order by the L.A. Police Commissioners.
The names have been handed off to Mayor Bass, and it is now her decision to make.

Councilmember Kevin de León said, "Ultimately, at the end of the day, for the mayor, it's who she feels comfortable with, who she feels will step up and do what's right by Angelenos."
Councilmember Monica Rodriguez believes, "It's more about making sure that we have the qualified candidate who knows the inner workings of this department in a manner that can help lead it and bring everyone together."
There's been much speculation about who's on the list of three, and one name that does keep coming up is current LAPD deputy Chief Emada E. Tingirides. Former L.A. County Sheriff Jim McDonnell is also believed to have at least been interviewed and may be a top candidate.
