
Gov. Gavin Newsom announced on Wednesday that he’s joining the governors of Oregon, Washington state, and Hawaii to issue winter virus vaccination recommendations through the West Coast Health Alliance.
“Our states are united in putting science, safety, and transparency first — and in protecting families with clear, credible vaccine guidance,” a joint statement by the governors read. The West Coast Health Alliance stands united in protecting public health and always putting safety before politics.”
The recommendations are as follows:

COVID-19 Vaccines:
- Children 6-23 months
- Those 2 to 18 years old with “risk factors” or who have not received a COVID vaccine
- Women who are pregnant, planning to be pregnant, or who are postpartum or lactating
- Adults 65 years and older, including those with risk factors
- Those in close contact with those who have “risk factors”
- Those who choose to be protected against COVID-19
Flu Vaccines
- Those 6 months and older
- Women who are pregnant, planning to be pregnant, or who are postpartum or lactating
- All adults
RSV Vaccines
- Those younger than 8 months
- Those 8 to 19 months with risk factors
- Women who are 32 to 26 weeks pregnant
- Those 75 years and older
- Those 50 to 74 years old with risk factors
The governor's office also announced that Newsom signed a bill that allows California to base future immunization guidance on “credible, independent medical organizations” rather than the CDC.
His office also accused Health Secretary Robert F. Kennedy Jr. of “purging” the CDC’s vaccine advisory committee and replacing those he fired with “cherry-picked appointees who include vaccine skeptics.”
