LOS ANGELES (KNX) — The National Hockey League and its players’ association (NHLPA) announced on Tuesday updates to league-wide COVID-19 protocols.
Since Dec. 29, players have been required to isolate for five days following a positive COVID-19 test result. That rule will remain in place through Feb. 3, pending review and agreement on Jan. 31 between the NHL and NHLPA medical experts. Following Feb. 3, there will be no testing of fully vaccinated players and staff during the All-Star break, unless necessary for travel or where symptoms emerge.

Anyone reentering club facilities after the All-Star game will be tested once, after which there will be no testing for asymptomatic players and staff, or testing of those vaccinated who’ve had close contact with someone with COVID-19.
Testing will continue in February and thereafter on a “limited cause” basis for vaccinated players and staff who develop symptoms or require testing for international travel.
A post-COVID “testing holiday” will remain at 90 days of duration. However, testing based on symptoms may be performed at a team doctor’s discretion.
Testing for international travel post-COVID will adhere to national health authorities — 90 days for entry to the U.S., 180 for entry to Canada.
