Responding officers heard gunfire as they approached the scene. An apartment manager reportedly told them the suspect -- described as a woman in her 50s -- lived alone in the building.
A SWAT team responded to the scene after the woman allegedly barricaded inside her apartment. Several schools in the area were locked down as the standoff continued.

The woman's name was being withheld by the Los Angeles County Department of Medical Examiner pending notification of relatives.
A motive for the shooting was not immediately known, although neighbors said it may have resulted from the tenant-landlord dispute.
