Orange County elections officials said that voters can count on accuracy and transparency when they cast their votes in the upcoming primary election.
Officials took members of the media on a tour of a ballot counting center Monday to show how votes are tabulated and what security measures are taken. KNX News’ Jon Baird reported that California Secretary of State Shirley Weber, who joined the tour, is adamant that the election system in California is safe and secure.
“This is a tried and true system that works. And I always find it interesting that those who don't believe in the system, but they believe that they got elected,” she said.
For people who believe that it would be better to count all of the votes by hand, Weber said research has shown that hand-counting has a 25% error rate, but the error rate for counting by machine is less than 1%. Hand counting also tends to be a very long process.
