The family of a dog that went missing after a Petco grooming appointment in Lakewood says they're not losing hope in locating her, thanks to a recent tip and Petco's commitment to helping find the beloved pet.

Last week, Audrey and Cynthia Booher of Norwalk took their dog Betty Lou to the groomers, only to get a call that the dog had somehow escaped from the store, and they haven't seen her since.

They were told that the pup ran off across Lakewood Blvd., and Audrey told KNX News' Nataly Tavidian that it was hard to believe this could happen without seeing it for themselves.

After being permitted to review surveillance footage of the day's events, she said what the store said was true. "[Betty Lou] was able to slip out of the leash that was put on her...and she ran out of the store," Audrey said.

According to Audrey, the grooming failed to follow proper company policy by not using the approved lead, which resulted in Betty Lou's escape.

It's been almost a full week, but Audrey says she and her family are not losing hope.

They received a tip Wednesday from somebody who says they spotted Betty Lou in the Signal Hill area but had no luck finding her.

Petco is flying in out-of-state dog trackers, which include bloodhound dogs, which are expected to arrive Saturday.

The bloodhounds will sniff the missing dog's bed and toys and retrace everywhere they believe she has been.

Anyone who sees her is asked to call 562-530-2888.
