Fans watching the National Hot Rod Association drag race finals at the Pomona Fairplex helped save four people when a single-engine plane crashed in the parking lot on Sunday.

“Everybody was up at the gate, up at the fences watching the races, so it was kind of clear," Robert Early Jr. told KNX News’ Emily Valdez.

The small plane, which appeared to be heading for the airport on the other side of the track, slammed into several cars and at least one trailer. Early said he saw the crash and went in to rescue some of the victims.

“Everybody was alert and awake,” he said. “The one lady was in, you could tell she was in pain. She was kind of screaming and you could tell she was in pain, but we got her out of the fuel and away into safety.”
