Simi Valley Police Department announced this weekend the department has arrested a 51-year-old man after he is suspected of using a drone - with a bag of heroin attached to it.

On Instagram, the department wrote "Seemed like a good idea 😐. It wasn’t... Heroin sales, even in Class A-G Air Space, is heroin sales. Found this gem on a suspected heroin dealer."

The police and the Homeless Liaison Officers (HLO) and narcotics detectives conducted an investigation into John Piani, a Simi Valley resident, for the alleged sales of heroin and methamphetamine, according to a press release.

Once the investigation was completed, he was located in the 900 block of Enchanted Way in Simi Valley by an officer and arrested.

During the arrest, it was discovered that Piani was operating a drone, the press release said. The drone was recovered and suspected heroin was found attached to it.

According to the LA Times, jail records state that Piani is being held in lieu of $125,000 bail at Ventura County Jail on suspicion of two counts of possessing a controlled substance for sale and one count of controlled substance possession.

Police said a further investigation will be conducted in order to confirm the involvement of the drone.
