Police seek suspect in fatal shooting near CSU Northridge

LOS ANGELES (KNX) — A man was fatally shot during an early-morning altercation in the Northridge neighborhood of Los Angeles, not far from the campus of California State University, Northridge.

Officers were called to the 18400 block of Deaborn Street shortly after midnight on Friday on reports of shorts fired, according to the L.A. Police Department.

The victim, a 31-year-old man who'se name has not been released, was found lying on the floor of a bedroom suffering from gunshot wounds, LAPD told City News Service, adding that the man died at the scene.

Police noted that in their investigation they learned that the victim did not live in the apartment building.

"Apparently the victim was here visiting, for one reason or another the suspect became upset with him and shot him," LAPD Detective Steve Castro told CBS L.A.

Witnesses told police they heard the gunshots and saw the suspect fleeing the area on foot. He's described only as a 26-year-old man.

At this point police said it is now yet known if either man was a student at the university. The investigation is ongoing.
