The Supreme Court’s ruling invalidating President Trump’s tariff hike authority and the president vowing to use other means to keep those tariffs in place is creating a world of uncertainty as far as cargo movement through the Port of L.A. is concerned.

Gene Seroka, Executive Director of the Port of L.A., told KNX News’ Pete Demetriou that the back and forth on tariffs creates uncertainty. He added that the pace of imports versus exports is what matters.

“This also weighs in on decision making of corporate America, importers and exporters, and in reality, the exporter continues to be caught in the middle of this,” he said. “Soybean shipments were down to China from the United States by 90% last year. Exports at the Port of Los Angeles have declined in nine of the last 13 months.”

Seroka said he is anticipating a sudden surge of cargo coming into the Port of L.A. and that it's ready to handle it.
