Los Angeles may receive millions in federal cash to help clean up the air pollution at the ports.

The Environmental Protection Agency is offering grants totaling $3 billion to ports around the country to clean the air. KNX News’ Emily Valdez spoke to Congresswoman Nanette Barragan, who authored the legislation that made this possible.

“My staff and I sat down and we realized there was no program dedicated to cleaning up our ports,” she said.

L.A. Mayor Karen Bass said the city is applying for the program.

“Thanks to this historic legislation, Los Angeles continues to lock arms with the Biden-Harris administration to deliver federal funding to transform our infrastructure, including here at the Port of L.A.,” Bass said.

Each port can get up to $500 million. The money would go to buy zero-emission port equipment.
