Power outage impacts over 26,000 Long Beach residents

Thousands of SoCal Edison customers in Long Beach have been in the dark without AC since Sunday evening.

The areas impacted are west of Quincy Ave., east of Alamitos, north of Ocean Blvd., and south of Seventh St.

The Long Beach Post reported that the outage was caused by a fire at an underground electrical vault on Broadway near Newport Ave. and that over 26,000 customers were impacted. The outlet also reported that on Monday morning, there were over 2,500 customers without power.

Adam, a resident who lost power, told KNX News’ Jon Baird that he and some other neighbors made the most of it Sunday night.

“People were out on the sidewalks just talking and having a glass of wine, and it was kind of nice,” he said.

Edison was working on Monday to get the power on for the rest of the customers.
