Steadfast L.A., a nonprofit headed by businessman Rick Caruso, will provide seed money for Samara Corporations to build fire-resistant structures offsite and move them onto the burned-out lots of residents without insurance or the funds to rebuild.

Samara CEO Mike McNamara said the company will take care of all the permitting, property surveys, and other logistics for homeowners.

“We just said, wouldn't it be great if we could go to some people and just find the most in need and just say, here you go, and we’ll take care of the whole thing soup to nuts and you go live your life now,” he said.

Samara, Airbnb, and other private donors will put $15 million into the project with an aim of building up to 100 homes. McNamara said the homes will take less than 6 months to build in a factory.
