
Police Thursday are investigating a crash in Pomona that killed a 6-year-old girl and left her 19-year-old sister seriously injured.
The child was identified as Guadalupe Alvarez Salgado of Pomona, according to the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner's Office.
According to the Pomona Police Department, the sisters were struck while crossing the street around 8 p.m. Tuesday at Towne and Lexington avenues. Responding officers found Guadalupe and the woman in the roadway near Towne, police said.
Los Angeles County Fire Department personnel were called and pronounced the girl dead at the scene. The woman was taken to a hospital with serious injuries, police said.

The driver of the vehicle who hit the pedestrians remained at the scene and cooperated with police.
According to family and friends, the sisters were walking with their mother, returning home from a store, when the siblings were struck by a silver Honda Accord heading north on Towne. They identified the older sister as Mireya Alvarez, and said the siblings were walking ahead of their mother in the intersection when they were struck.
There was a candlelight vigil at the crash site Wednesday night. A memorial of flowers and candles grew at the site throughout the day.
The crash is being investigated by the department's Major Accident Investigation Team. Anyone with information about the accident was asked to call the Pomona Police Department's Traffic Services Bureau at 909-802-7741 or 909-620-2048.
