Significant progress has been made in the prolonged legal fight to reclaim property on the West L.A. VA campus and use it to build housing for homeless veterans.
Judge David Carter reviewed the tentative agreement between the Brentwood school and the VA to return illegally leased land and set up an athletic facility-sharing agreement between veterans and student-athletes.

Judge Carter told the lawyers to make some changes, including a solid commitment to use already-paved sections of VA land, and some property adjacent to UCLA’s Jackie Robinson Stadium to build temporary supportive housing and return with a finished document within 48 hours.
KNX News' Pete Demetriou spoke with Public Counsel Attorney Amelia Piazza, who said the bottom line is, "This judge wants things done."
Carter tersely told BOTH sides he wants to see construction of 300 housing units begin at once, no more excuses.
Ideally, Judge Carter wants the 400-square-foot housing units built and ready for occupancy for homeless vets before the winter rainy season begins.
All parties will be back in court for further discussions on Friday.
