Police and the family and friends of a 28-year-old woman who went missing over a month ago in South Los Angeles were seeking public help Wednesday in finding out what happened to her.

Ashley Marie Williams last contacted her family via text on Aug. 27, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

Her family says she was last seen in July.

"Her last known location was near the 3800 block of Crawford Street in South Los Angeles," police said in a statement.

Williams was described as 5-feet-6 inches tall, about 150 pounds with black hair and brown eyes.

According to a news release from her family, which has hired private investigator and retired LAPD Detective Moses Castillo to lead the effort to find the young woman, Williams is from Ohio and traveled from Georgia, where her parents live, to L.A.
