The pursuit began when officers in San Diego tried to pull over the driver for driving the wrong way, CHP officer Shanelle Phillips told KNX News.

The driver led officers on a pursuit through Los Angeles County before stopping the car near Los Angeles International Airport.

The man got out of the car and stood on the edge of the bridge, KABC-7 reported.

The Los Angeles Fire Department responded as the man, who was believed to be armed with a knife, threatened to jump from the overpass.

Emergency officials set up an air cushion below the bridge.

“Flights are not impacted, but traffic will be heavy and delayed. Allow extra time,” LAX tweeted at 1:48 p.m.

Just before 2:50 p.m., it was announced the suspect was taken into custody.
