A unique holiday tradition continues in south L.A. - Active Recycling on Slauson Avenue is offering free Christmas trees to community members who recycle.
For the ninth consecutive year, the center is encouraging residents to bring in recyclable materials, and in exchange, they'll receive a free 5-7 foot Christmas tree.

"If you could bring in some pieces of cardboard, metal, or newspaper, you'll get paid for that material, and then you'll also get a Christmas tree," Diego Rojas with Active told KNX News' Pete Demetriou.
One resident, Duena, brought in about five pounds of recycled metal goods and said the gift of a Christmas tree means a great deal to her family, calling it a blessing.
With a limited supply of 1,000 trees, the offer is expected to last only a few days.
After the holidays, Rojas says when the tree comes down, bring it back, and they'll recycle it. No charge.
