He's been the Sheriff of Riverside County since 2018, and now Chad Bianco says he might like to be California's next governor.
Bianco, who has been critical of the current governor, Gavin Newsom, told the Times that many people are telling him he should run and is now talking it over with his family.
"I live in the perfect place. I have the perfect job, and I would do this for the next 40 years if people would keep electing me here in Riverside County," Bianco told the Times. But with the "growing number" of people trying to convince him to run, he said, it's giving him something to think about.
He recently shared his opinion on the current state of affairs in politics and policing in an Instagram post in which he took jabs at Newsom for having what he calls a "love affair with criminals."
It's the same video where he declared his support for Donald Trump's presidential campaign in a way one might not expect from a law enforcement official.
"Law enforcement, apparently, if you listen to our governor, is systemically racist. If you listen to our legislature, our laws are systemically racist. Our judicial system is systemically racist," Bianco said in the video.
He goes on to say, "I think it's time we put a felon in the White House. Trump 2024, baby. Let's save this country and make America great again."
If Sheriff Bianco does decide to launch a campaign to be California's next governor, voters could see his name on the 2026 ballot.
