A Los Angeles judge has set a civil trial date for a woman who says fugitive film director Roman Polanski sexually assaulted her in the 1970s.
The woman, who is going by Jane Doe, says she was a teenager in 1973 when Polanski gave her multiple shots of tequila and took her back to his Benedict Canyon home, where he told her he wanted to have sex with her. She alleges that she told him, “Please don’t do this,” but he ignored her pleas.
“I'm just going to say that it took me a really long time to decide to file this suit against Mr Polanski, but I finally did make that decision and I've decided that I want to file it to obtain justice and accountability,” Jane Doe said.
Polanski, who is now 90, fled the United States for France in 1978 after pleading guilty to raping a 13-year-old girl. Gloria Allred, Jane Doe’s attorney, said they were able to track him down at his Paris home to serve him papers in the civil suit.
