The Sandy Fire continued burning in Ventura County on Tuesday morning, reaching 1,386 acres with a 5% containment.
During a morning briefing posted on the Ventura County Fire Department’s X account, more than 750 firefighters are working to contain the fire.

The fire is currently mapped at 1,385.6 acres with 5% containment. More than 750 firefighters are assigned to the incident and continue working aggressively to strengthen containment lines and protect threatened communities.

At least one home was destroyed in the fire. No injuries have been reported at this time.
The fire started Monday around 10 a.m. off Sandy Ave. and quickly grew. While Ventura County Fire spokesperson Andrew Dowd told KNX News on Monday night the fire had grown to 2,400 acres, CalFire reported the fire is at 1,386 acres.

A temporary evacuation point is open at Rancho Santa Susana Community Park, located at 505 Los Angeles Ave.
Animal evacuation shelters for small animals are open at the Simi Valley Animal Shelter, located at 670 W Los Angeles Ave. For large animals, you can go to the Ventura County Fairgrounds, located at 10 E Harbor Blvd.
Following the fire, Simi Valley Unified School District announced on Monday night that schools would be closed Tuesday for students; however, “only key leadership staff will be contacted to report to work for varied assignments.”
The cause of the fire remains unclear.
