Senate committee confirms Mayor Garcetti’s ambassadorial nomination to India

LOS ANGELES (KNX) — Los Angeles Mayor Eric Garcetti’s nomination by President Joe Biden to serve as U.S. ambassador to India was confirmed Wednesday by the Senate Foreign Relations Committee.

Garcetti’s nomination will now head to the full Senate, where it will need to be confirmed by a majority vote.

Garcetti appeared before the committee last month for his confirmation hearing, without much hassle.

His mayoral term is scheduled to end in December 2022. If he is confirmed by the Senate, the City Council could name an acting mayor to fill the job until a new one is elected, according to The Los Angeles Times.

City Council President Nury Martinez has also suggested she could fill the position in the interim, according to The Times.
