Hundreds of thousands of Southern California residents will be on the road Wednesday to ring in the Fourth of July holiday.

Doug Shupe with Gas Buddy told KNX News Jon Baird that this year’s travel numbers are record-breaking.

“We have broken pre-pandemic numbers for travel for this Fourth of July holiday,” he said.

That said, Shupe urged travelers head out of town early.

“The busiest times to travel in Southern California will likely be on the afternoons and evenings of July 3rd, [July] 4th, and July 5th,” he said. “And the most congestion is expected on the afternoon of Monday, July 8th with many drivers returning home from those Fourth of July trips.”

Roy from Beaumont is one of those drivers who hit the road early on Wednesday.

“It took us an hour and a half to get here,” he said. “Doing great timing. Left at five in the morning.”

For drivers hitting the road, the average price in L.A. County is $4.78 while the average price in Orange County is $4.70, according to AAA.
