Southern California residents are hopping in planes or their cars to get started on New Year’s weekend.
There are expected to be 215,000 plane passengers and 85,000 cars on the road on Friday, according to Los Angeles World Airports.
Jan. 2 is also expected to be a busy travel day with LAWA estimating 218,000 plane passengers and 86,000 cars on the road.
One man traveling to Tampa, Florida told KNX News’ Jon Baird he moved up his flight.
“I'm sure people pre-plan but I had an open ticket,” He said. “So, my thoughts are a lot of people are going to wait till last minute to go in, wait till last minute to go out.”
If you’re driving to your New Year’s Eve destination, be on the lookout. California Highway Patrol officers will implement its New Year’s “maximum enforcement period” at 6 p.m. Friday in several areas across the states, including Riverside County.
