A stolen vehicle suspect ran from officers who tried to detain him in South Los Angeles Wednesday morning, prompting a perimeter search and a freeway off-ramp closure.

Officers stopped a white Nissan in the area of Figueroa and 51st streets around 8 a.m. and the driver took off running, according to a Los Angeles Police Department spokesman.
Officers cordoned off several blocks in the area and were searching for the suspect.
The California Highway Patrol closed down the 51st Street off-ramp from the southbound Harbor (110) Freeway as police conducted their search for the suspect, who was only described as a male.
