LOS ANGELES (KNX) — For the second time in less than 24 hours gun violence has claimed the life of a young person in Los Angeles, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.

LAPD officer Mike Lopez said the latest attack happened around 3:30 p.m. Tuesday, outside of the Evergreen Recreation Center on E 2nd Street.


"Officers were in the area of 1st and Savanah when they heard shots fired," Lopez said. "They were able to locate a victim...and the victim at the time was conscious, barely breathing."

Lopez said the victim was a teenager who later died of his injuries. One person was taken into custody and another remains on the run.

The fatal shooting is the second in the area is less than 24 hours. A 12-year-old boy was killed and two others injured Monday in a shooting outside of an elementary school.
