University of California healthcare workers are planning to go on strike.

UPTE-CWA 9119, the union representing 20,000 workers, announced that members voted by 98% to authorize a statewide strike from Feb. 26 through the 28th.

The union said that after 24 days at the bargaining table, UC has refused to engage in meaningful dialogue or provide substantive counterproposals to nearly all of their proposals.

Miriam Azizadeh, who works on the cancer research clinical trials team at UCLA, told KNX News’ Brian Ping she’s being stretched to her limit because the university refuses to hire staff.

“Being so stretched thin is a dangerous game to play,” she said. “We're dealing with patients who have severe illnesses and they are putting their trust in us, their trust in the system, especially since the university does advertise this world-class service, but doesn't provide their workers with the conditions to be fulfilling their responsibilities.

The workers plan to strike at all 10 UC campuses and affiliated healthcare facilities.
