Students from the University of California campuses rallied outside the UC Regents meeting at UCLA on Wednesday.

The regents are set to vote on a plan to increase tuition every year, but would set aside a smaller amount of that money for financial aid. It comes as the regents are facing financial pressure in the wake of state and federal funding cuts for the UC system

Still, students who spoke with KNX News’ Jon Baird said the tuition is already too high.

“ I think any tuition hikes should be like an absolute last resort after they've exhausted all other options,” Osun, a  UCLA senior, said.

Sarah, another UCLA senior, said future students will feel the pain.

“It's up to students here, and it's really easy for current undergrad students to be apathetic to future students,” she said. “It’s easy, I think, to be complacent and just let tuition hikes happen.”

Senior Jacob Boyer told KNX News’ Pete Demetriou there are other options that could deal with budget problems.

“If we paid into pay into a system like other states or even other countries, we definitely benefit,
he said. “And it benefits not only students, but our society as a whole.

KNX News has reached out to the UC President’s office for comment. We are waiting to hear back.
