UCLA received the most overall applications at 149,779. That was an increase from 139,463 applications submitted last year. UC Irvine received the second-highest number of applications at 119,165; up from 107,939 last year.

Transfer applications into the UC system dropped, however, by 12.6 percent from last year, and applications from California Community College students fell by 13 percent.

That decline paralleled a spike in applications from students of color. Chicano and Latino students represented 38.1 percent of applicants, a 4.1 percent jump from 2021. Applications from Black students increased by 2.8 percent over last year, and applications from Native American students increased by a whopping 32.8 percent.
