The Silver Lake Track Club has organized an Ultramarathon for Saturday, May 10, to raise money for the communities affected by the Palisades and Eaton fires.

"We want to raise $50,000 for 50K," club captain Howie Goldklang told KNX News' Karen Adams. "$50K for 50K is the goal, and we're really pushing to get there."

He said they recently hit $30,000, so the team is hopeful that they will reach their target by event day.

50k is 31.07 miles, but Goldklang says if that sounds like a bit much to run, don't worry - you can bike, skate, or even walk. It's not a conventional race; he says it's about being together and having fun for a good cause.

"We have checkpoints roughly every 6 miles, every 10 kilometers at different coffee shops from Altadena to the Palisades, so people can run segments of it also," Goldklang said.

The run starts at 7 a.m. Saturday at the Good Neighbor Bar in Altadena and ends at Will Rogers Beach in Pacific Palisades.

All proceeds from the $50 ticket fee benefit Altadena Mountain Rescue, Altadena Public Library, Santa Monica Mountain Fund, and the Palisades Fire Domestic Workers Fund.
