LOS ANGELES (CNS) - Unstable weather conditions will linger over the region today, and possibly into the weekend, continuing the possibility of rain and thunderstorms across the Southland.
Rain fell on many parts of the region overnight, with thunder and lightning also rousing some residents in the early morning hours.
Lightning was spotted off the South Bay coast Wednesday morning, prompting Los Angeles County lifeguards to close beaches and usher swimmers out of the water from San Pedro to Hermosa Beach.
"A stubborn area of low pressure aloft will likely linger of the region through the remainder of the week, and keep a showery and unsettled weather pattern in place," according to the National Weather Service. Night through morning low clouds and fog are likely to continue through the week."
Forecasters noted that the unstable weather system will "threaten the area with thunderstorms and locally heavy rain."
"The best chances and heaviest rain will be in the mountains and deserts each afternoon, but coastal areas will likely continue to see isolated storms each night," according to the NWS.
"Isolated but minor flooding is possible in the mountains and recent burn scars."
