USC has issued a warning to students about a man impersonating building maintenance to get inside off-campus homes.

The USC Department of Public Safety alert said he’s been let inside several homes recently in the 1100 block of 28th Street and 2600 block of Orchard Avenue.

KNX News’ Karen Adams reported the man tells residents he needs to fix a water leak. Once he’s inside the home, the man asks inappropriate, personal questions and asks about the person's love life. In one case, the man took a key fob to a resident’s car, but later returned it.

USC has urged residents to exercise caution when someone comes to their door, verify their identity, and call campus police. However, it’s advised to call 911 if someone feels like they’re in danger.
