LOS ANGELES (KNX) — The Los Angeles Police Department released video of an officer-involved shooting in the Hollenbeck area.
The shooting occurred Jan. 28 in the area of Evergreen and Wabash avenues. Around 1:20 p.m., officers with the Hollenbeck narcotics Enforcement Detail saw a male suspect with a gun.
Enforcement detail called for backup from patrol units. During the radio broadcast, one officer reported the suspect ran away from officers and reached for his waistband. The suspect was then shot by a narcotics officer.
The Narcotics Enforcement Details officers did not have body-worn cameras at the time of the shooting and were wearing plain clothes rather than their uniform, Captain Stacy Spell, commanding officer of media relations for the LAPD, said in the video.
The department did post body-worn camera footage on YouTube from an officer who responded to the scene after the suspect was shot. Footage showed the suspect lying on the sidewalk, wailing in pain. A gun is shown within reach.
One officer repeatedly told the suspect to get on his stomach before handcuffing him.
Officers recovered a loaded 9mm ghost gun with 33-round magazine from the scene and booked it for evidence.
The suspect, identified as 28-year-old Adrian Aldaco, was taken to a hospital and treated for gunshot wounds. He was released two days later and booked into jail.
On Feb. 1, the L.A. County District Attorney’s Office charged Aldaco with one count of assault with a deadly weapon on a peace officer and one count of felony in possession of a firearm.
