Riverside County firefighters and a deputy saved four cats from a burning apartment in Jurupa Valley.
On Monday, firefighters with the CAL FIRE/Riverside County Fire Department responded to an apartment fire in 3000 block of Emma Street. Assistant Chief Tom Voight with the department said that after the fire was put out, firefighters went through one of the burned-out units and found four cats.
“Three of them were unconscious and not breathing,” he told KNX News’ Emily Valdez. “One of them was fine. The crews immediately removed the animals to a safe area and began life-saving efforts.”
A video posted on social media shows the firefighters and a sheriff’s deputy pulling the cats out on the lawn, each firefighter doing CPR, even mouth-to-mouth resuscitation. Then they fetched a pet oxygen mask.
“One by one, the cats began breathing again, opening their eyes and eventually standing and walking and being reunited with their owners,” Voight said.
All cats, by the way, are doing just fine.
