Home burglaries have gotten scary for residents in Westchester recently.

KNX News’ Margaret Carrero spoke to Debra Huston, a Westchester resident, who said that if burglars got into a home where somebody was home, they used to leave. Now, that’s not the case.

“We've had three cases in the last two weeks where burglars entered the home, people were home,” she said. “In one of those cases, a team of burglars, a team of three, found the mother and her children hiding in the home, out of fear. They threatened the mother, and apparently the children, not to call 9-1-1.”

Huston said there was another case where a man was home when burglars entered his home and the man fired off shots from his gun to make them leave. In another instance, Huston said residents were pepper sprayed by a burglar.

She said that residents have heard from the Los Angeles Police Department that they’ve added more patrols, which Huston said they desperately need.

Huston hasn’t heard of any burglar arrests in the neighborhood since a burglary ring was busted in August 2023.
