Hollywood writers and studios are set to return to the bargaining table on Wednesday.
“You might not hear from us in the coming days while we are negotiating, but know that our focus is getting a fair deal for writers as soon as possible,” the union wrote in an email to members. “We’ll reach out again when there is something of significance to report.”
On Sept. 14, the Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers said in a statement that the Writers Guild of America reached out "and asked for a meeting to move negotiations forward."
“Every member company of the AMPTP is committed and eager to reach a fair deal, and to working together with the WGA to end the strike,” the AMPTP added.
Cynthia Littleton, the co-editor-in-chief of Variety, told KNX News’ Jon Baird there’s pain being felt as this strike continues.
“There’s definitely pain being felt all over, but more specifically at the individual worker level – the very people that the unions went on strike to protect,” she said. “So, it’s been a very long struggle and I think you’ve got the recognition that the ripple effects here are even beyond actors and writers, and even actors and writers are really hurting after months without a paycheck.”
The writers have been on the picket lines since May. They were joined by the actors’ union, SAG-AFTRA, in July.
