A motorist initially wanted for reckless driving was arrested Monday after leading authorities on a dangerous pursuit that came to a stop when the driver struck a median, causing the vehicle's airbags to deploy and prompting an extended standoff in North Hollywood.
The motorist was seen weaving through traffic on Sunland-area streets, side-swiping multiple vehicles as the driver attempted to elude authorities.

Shortly before 3:30 p.m., when the driver neared the area of Vineland Avenue and Hortense Street, the motorist struck a median, prompting the interior airbags to deploy and disabling the car.
Sheriff's deputies amassed behind the car, but the driver refused to exit the car, prompting a standoff.
Shortly after 4:30 p.m., the suspect began to repeatedly open and close the door of the sedan, appearing to yell at the deputies behind the car. Several times, he exited the vehicle but quickly got back inside and closed the door.
The final time he exited the car, deputies ran at him and tackled him to the ground, taking him into custody.
According to the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department, the driver was initially wanted for reckless driving. The suspect is also expected to be booked on suspicion of assaulting a peace officer during the chase.
There were no immediate reports of any injuries.
