Woman charged with robbing elderly woman in Irvine on Christmas Day

A 25-year-old woman was charged Monday with robbing a a 74-year-old woman and committing battery on two good Samaritans who came to the aid of the victim on Christmas Day in Irvine.

Stheysi Radillaespinoza was charged with single felony counts of robbery and inflicting injury on an elder adult and two misdemeanor counts of battery. She pleaded not guilty in a hearing in the jail courtroom in Santa Ana and is next due in court Jan.7 in the Harbor Justice Center in Newport Beach for a pretrial hearing.

The defendant is accused of pushing a 74-year-old woman down and snatching her purse just before 4:15 p.m. Christmas Day in a Grocery Outlet parking lot at 4731 Barranca Parkway, said Kyle Oldoerp, a spokesman for the Irvine Police Department.

A good Samaritan confronted the defendant and retrieved the victim's purse, Oldoerp said. As the suspect ran toward a nearby movie theater, another good Samaritan followed her and directed police to the lobby where the suspect was arrested, Oldoerp said.

The victim sustained minor injuries and was treated and released from a hospital, Oldoerp said.
