Woman charged with setting fire in Target store

A 40-year-old woman was charged Thursday with setting a fire in a Target store in Buena Park while allegedly attempting to steal baby formula.

Cynthia Torres was charged with a felony count of arson and a misdemeanor charge of conspiracy to commit a crime, according to court records.

Orange County Fire Authority firefighters and Buena Park police were dispatched about 7:15 p.m. Sept. 5 to the department store at 7530 Orangethorpe Ave. regarding a blaze.

Torres was arrested Tuesday, police said. There was no information available about whether she is the mother of an infant.

The damage was estimated at $500,000 to the building and $1 million in retail goods damaged, police said.
