A woman was fatally stabbed Monday at the Universal City/Studio City Metro B Line Station in Studio City, and a suspect was arrested, police said.

Paramedics sent to the 3900 block of Lankershim Boulevard about 5 a.m. were directed to the platform area, and they took a patient to a hospital, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department.

According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the woman died at the hospital, and a suspect, described only as a male, was arrested.

No information was available on the identity of the woman or the name of the suspect.

L.A.Detective Meghan Aguilar told KNX News' Jon Baird the attack was unprovoked.

She added that the suspect took off but about 30 minutes later, his description had been broadcast to LAPD officers in the area and some officers in North Hollywood spotted someone with the same description. Detective Aguilar said they believe he is the one responsible for the fatal stabbing.

In a statement, Metro said the passenger was stabbed as she exited the train.

Train stops at that station have been temporarily halted for the investigation, and bus bridges were arranged to accommodate rail passengers, according to Metro officials.

Anyone with information about the crime was asked to call the LA Regional Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-222-TIPS.
