Agency spokeswoman Sgt. Wenndy Brito Gonzalez said that the victim was "stabbed at the location by a Black male adult," but no other details were immediately available, including the identities of the woman and suspect.
Gonzalez said that patrol deputies reached the store within minutes and attempted life-saving measures until paramedics arrived and took over. However, the victim was pronounced dead at the scene.
The man was taken into custody without incident in or near the Walmart, according to the sergeant.
Central Homicide Unit detectives were investigating.
Anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff's Lake Elsinore station at 951-245-3300.
