MORENO VALLEY (CNS) - A 25-year-old motorist was killed when her car slammed into the back of a tractor-trailer at a Moreno Valley intersection, authorities said Friday.

Jasmine Gutierrez of Moreno Valley was fatally injured about 10:45 p.m. Thursday at Ellsworth Street and Goldencrest Drive, according to the Riverside County Sheriff's Department.

Lt. Howard Hibbler said Gutierrez was driving her Toyota sedan northbound on Ellsworth when she struck the rear of the semi at an undetermined speed.

It was unclear whether the big rig was in motion or had come to a stop at the intersection.

Paramedics reached the location within minutes and pronounced Gutierrez dead at the scene. The trucker was not injured.

Ellsworth was shut down for several hours between Cactus Avenue and New Hope Drive for a preliminary investigation and to clear the wreckage.

The investigation is ongoing, and an autopsy on the victim was pending Friday.

Anyone with information was asked to contact the sheriff's Moreno Valley station at 951-486-6700.
