Officers from the department's Hollywood Division were called to the intersection of Sunset Boulevard and Wilton Place at 12:32 a.m. regarding a report of a vehicle crash, an LAPD spokesman told City News Service.

According to the LAPD, the victim was traveling north on Wilton when the second driver, a woman driving a Range Rover east on Sunset, slammed into the victim's white Mazda sedan.

Los Angeles Fire Department firefighters were called and attempted to free the victim, who was pronounced dead at the scene. Video from the scene showed debris strew on both sides of Sunset.

The driver of the Range Rover ran away from the scene and is still at large, police said. Fox 11 reported the Range Rover had been reported stolen.

The LAPD closed the area around Sunset and Wilton while officers investigate the collision.
