A group of Jewish students walked out of El Camino Real Charter High School in Woodland Hills Tuesday to protest recent alleged antisemitic incidents at the school.

In between class periods, the students gathered outside, some carrying signs reading “stand together against hate” and “zero tolerance for antisemitism.”

“I'm in a class with someone who openly expresses hatred towards Jewish people,” one student said over a megaphone. “It's terrifying to hear her talk about wanting to harm others based on their religion. This fear even made me hesitant to come back to class.”

Student Danielle Eshed told KNX News’ Margaret Carrero that more than a week ago, a fellow student hurled an antisemitic slur at her and then said he was going to beat her up.

“Nobody believed him until he got up, pushed me and started punching me in the neck and the back,” she said.

She said the teachers weren’t paying attention and didn’t realize what was happening until she left the room after the attack.

“I was sobbing from how terrified I was. That’s when the teacher realized, and all he did was just send me to the nurse’s office,” she said.

The school’s executive director, David Hussey, said the student was disciplined, but wouldn’t go into further detail.

“Unfortunately, we cannot discuss student discipline. That's something that the school does take care of privately,” he said. “But as far as things being addressed, we hear concerns when they come to us and we address them to make sure everyone's safe.”
