SAN FRANCISCO (KNX) – Apple has informed its Silicon Valley employees they are required to return to the office at least three days a week by Sept. 5, as first reported by Bloomberg.
CEO Tim Cook and Senior Vice President Craig Federighi told workers in an internal memo on Monday that all Bay Area employees must come every Tuesday and Thursday and an additional day to be determined by their team manager.
The new policy is the latest attempt by the Cupertino-based tech giant to transition into a hybrid work model over the past year. The effort has been interrupted multiple times by the COVID-19 pandemic, which forced the company to push back previously set deadlines.
Employees currently are required to be in the office two days per week. The new policy only impacts workers in the Santa Clara Valley, and will spread to other offices later.
"Needless to say, this next phase is a pilot, so the one thing of which we can be assured is that we’ll learn a great deal in the months to come," Federghi wrote in his email notifying staff, obtained by the Verge.
The mandate is one of the most restrictive in-office work policies across the tech landscape.
