Police in Colorado arrested a university student Tuesday who they said had a “large cache” of weapons after witnesses accused him of making threats.

Deputies said 24-year-old Robert Killis threatened several students and faculty members at Colorado State University-Pueblo.

Investigators accused Killis of discussing buying body armor and guns, according to NBC News, prompting a special task force to begin tracking his movement on-campus recently.

After obtaining a search warrant for his car, police said they discovered a box of ammunition and a bulletproof vest in plain view inside of his 2020 Chevrolet sedan.

Sheriffs said they found high-capacity magazines loaded with more than 10-15 rounds that were “set up in a tactical manner.” They also recovered a pistol, semi-automatic rifle, a loaded shotgun, and an assortment of tactical equipment.

In a subsequent search of Killis’ home, authorities said they found another pistol and at least 100 rounds of ammo. Colorado prohibits magazines with more than 15 rounds but does not limit how much ammunition they can purchase.

The sheriff’s department promised increased patrols.

“Out of an overabundance of caution, there will be an added law enforcement presence at the university and our deputies will be available to address any concerns from students and faculty,” Pueblo County Sheriff Kirk Taylor said. He asked anyone who saw something suspicious to report it.

Killis, who NBC reported as having past military experience, must appear before a judge next week.
