A family celebrating a "gender reveal" party in New Hampshire set off 80 pounds of explosives that shook buildings dozens of miles away.
Nobody was injured and the blast happened earlier this week. Police arrived at the scene. The investigation is ongoing Friday.
"The group “. . . informed him that they were having a gender reveal party,” police said in a statement Thursday to the Boston Globe. “During the investigation, the detective was informed that the location, a quarry, was chosen as they felt it was a safe location to detonate the Tannerite.”
The person credited with starting the "gender reveal" craze -- who lives in Los Angeles -- has a message for people carrying out dangerous stunts.
"Knock it off! Cut it out!" says Jenna Myers Karvunidis, who is a social media influencer who came up with the idea in 2008.
She tells KNX In Depth the message she wants to send: "Nobody thinks it's cute. Nobody is impressed with your bomb."
Gender reveal parties are blamed for wildfires, including in California, injuries, at least one plane crash, and several deaths.
