(WBBM NEWSRADIO) – If you start seeing Halloween decorations when you venture out, you’re not going crazy.

The annual Oct. 31 celebration of all things ghoulish is more popular than ever, says former retail executive Gerald Storch, the CEO of Storch Advisors.

Consumers spend about $11 billion annually on Halloween, he said, and the leadup seems to be starting in the summer, especially for people who may not have a stake in the start of the new school year.

“There’s really nothing to talk about between Easter all the way to Halloween, so why wouldn’t Halloween move forward?” Storch said on Wednesday’s Noon Business Hour.

He said of all the cash that goes toward Halloween, 34 percent is spent on costumes; 32 percent is spent on home décor; and another 29 percent is spent on – what else? – candy.
