A Miami homeowner woke to a surprise guest when a stranger mistook his home for an Airbnb, spending the night without either knowing the other person was there.
Paul Drecksler, the unexpected guest, had apparently gotten into Miami to attend and officiate a friend's wedding before his strange morning, WSVN reported.
After a long day of travel, at around 2 a.m., Drecksler pulled up outside the house in an Uber and didn't realize the unlocked home he entered, looking to fall asleep as soon as possible, wasn't the Airbnb he had booked.
"I had accidentally got the address wrong going from the Airbnb app into the Google Maps and the Uber, the address became the house right next door," Drecksler said, ABC7 reported.
But to make the situation even funnier, when he entered the wrong room, it looked like what he had received in his Airbnb instructions.
"In the bedroom, the bed was made and ready to go, and there were two clean folded towels waiting for me," Drecksler said.
After finally getting some much-needed sleep, he was woken up by a confused and concerned homeowner who didn't know why a stranger was in his house.
"The next morning, I get woken up by a knock on the door. I was surprised the guy knocked on his own door," Drecksler recalled to WSVN. "He goes, 'Hey, can I help you? This is my house!' And I'm like sleeping, I'm like, 'Um no, this is an Airbnb that I rented.' He goes, 'No, this is my house.' I could've been woken up on an angry homeowner — really bad things could've happened."
While things could have gone bad, Drexler shared that he is just glad he gets to spend his next night in a bed and not a jail cell for breaking and entering.
"This is the best possible outcome of breaking into someone's home and spending the night in their bed," Drecksler said.
Drecksler shared that he did eventually find his Airbnb. It was just next door.
